The New Mexico VA Health Care System (NMVAHCS) is seeking a full-time Staff Nurse, Registered Nurse (RN), for the Gallup Community Based Outpatient Clinic. The RN will be assigned to the Psychosocial Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (PRRTP). The RN participates as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and applies knowledge of nursing process to patient care and daily operations of this residential program. The RN is accountable for adhering to established policies and standards of care, and practice and for demonstrating leadership, self direction, experience, and creative approaches to the management of complex patient care. The RN is prepared to provide assessment, referral, and data collection for veterans seeking access to RRTP services. The RN identifies his/her own area of learning needs to maintain current knowledge ! of psychiatric nursing, utilizing current literature and continuing edu! cation. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, direct patient care, screening, and evaluation of candidates referred to the program and patient teaching. The RN is actively involved in Performance Improvement (PI) activities and participates in unit, service and Medical Center committees and task forces. The RN acts as team leader in providing patient care and implementing programs to improve the delivery of care. The RN provides appropriate care for patients generally ranging in age from 17 through the geriatric years, taking into consideration diagnosis and physical, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs. BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
(1) Citizenship. Citizen of the United States . (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g, this part.)
(2) Graduation from School of Nursing
(a) Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State agency, and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant. [ NOTE: See exception in subparagraph (b) below for candidates who are enrolled in a MSN Bridge Program. ]
1 . The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), an accrediting arm of the National League for Nursing located at 61 Broadway, 33 rd Floor, New York, New York! 10006 or call (800) 669-1656 extension 153 . The NLNAC accredits all l! evels of nursing programs. Additional information may be obtained from the NLNAC web site ; or
2 . The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), an accrediting arm of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN). (b) [The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. In these programs, students are given a certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX and should submit this certification to VA prior to appointment. Students do not earn a BSN, but receive a MSN degree upon completion of course work. A copy of the MSN transcript must be provided to VA. B! ridge programs that confer a master's degree also fully meet the education requirement, even though a Bachelor's Degree is not awarded.
(3) Registration. A registered nurse (RN) will have a current, full, active and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the U.S. or in the District of Columbia . The appointing official may waive this registration if the RN is to serve in a country other than the U.S. and the RN has registration in that country (e.g., Philippines ). The RN must maintain a current, full, active and unrestricted registration to continue employment with VA.
(4) Physical Standards. See VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
(5) English Language Proficiency. RNs appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
Applicant's education and length of nur! sing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional S! tandards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected. Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel. The criteria are as follows: Practice: practice, ethics and resource utilization, Professional Development: performance, education/career development, Collaboration; collaboration, collegiality, Scientific Inquiry: quality of care, research. Education/Experience Requirements:
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, no experience. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field and no experience; or a Bachelors of! Science in Nursing (BSN) and no experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of experience; or a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of experience, or a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years experience or a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years experience or Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years experie! nce.
