Position Summary: Under the general supervision of the Director, Diagnostic Imaging performs procedures at a technical level not requiring direct supervision. Trained to work with adolescents, adults and geriatrics in professional manner. Sonography images are highly operator dependant and therefore, require considerable and extensive knowledge / skills in ultrasound techniques, physical principles / instrumentation, anatomy and physiology along with related positioning for Trans-thoracic echo. Organizational skills, independent judgment and ability to improvise are essential. PC experience preferred.
Basic Qualifications:
Education:
- Specified training in Adult/Echo Ultrasound methods and procedures is also required.
- Must have considerable knowledge of ultrasound equipment and procedures.
- Ability to follow and interpret written and verbal orders.
- Ability to evaluate patients as to technique for performing procedures.
- Must be able to recognize consequences of error and cope with stressful situations.
- Must be able to work within the department and maintain confidentiality.
- Requires completion of an AMA approved school and/or an equivalent combination of training and experience as accepted by accrediting agencies.
- Specified training in echocardiogram methods and procedures is also required.
- Must be a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer within 1 year of hire.
- Requires completion of an AMA approved school and/or an equivalent combination of training and experience as accepted by accrediting agencies.
- Current verification in Basic Life Support required.
- Knowledgeable in Ultrasound/echo principles, clinical applications and quality control.
- Provides a safe environment for patient visitor and employees through identifying/correcting/reporting health and safety hazards.
- Collaborate with nurses and health team members to ensure the patient's well being as evidenced by staff/client feedback.
- Functions as part of an interdisciplinary team with positive interpersonal communication skills when communicating with patients, families, visitors, physicians and staff in other departments of the organization.
- Demonstrates the RMCHCS Standards of Behavior as measured by peers, patients, and supervisor observation.
- Able to complete ordered procedures and demonstrate working knowledge of positioning and anatomy to facilitate the desired views as per physician orders.
- Confirms billing information and account registration ensuring that the ordered procedure matches the diagnosis on the requisition.
- Actively participates as a member of the healthcare team by attending a minimum of 75% of the unit staff meetings, employee forums and all mandated in-services.
- Must demonstrate effective communication skills by conveying necessary information accurately, listening effectively and asking questions when clarification is needed.
- Must be able to demonstrate reliability by arriving to work on time and taking breaks in expected time frames as per RMCHCS policy.
- Investigate and follow through on unusual orders or requests for service or information.
- Provide clinical and technical support for staff members, as evidenced by DI Director, physician and staff feedback.
- Utilizes necessary protective and monitoring equipment (Badges, Aprons, etc.) for self and others as measured by reports and observation.
- Practices effective infection control procedures such as washing hands before and after patients as measured by staff and patient observation.
