The Infection Control / Employee Health Coordinator shall be responsible for planning, administering and monitoring systems and procedures related to the dete ction and control of infectious micro-organisms within the Medical Center; coordinating health services for all employees and for the development and implementation of policies and procedures in this area; interviewing, assessing, reassessing, follow-up and referrals as needed; coordinating and administering hospital wide immunizations/vaccinations to prevent spread of communicable diseases; and monitoring employeesâ health to protect both patients and employees.
Provides education, training, orientation, and community health programs for hospital, clinics and the community related to Infection Control. Provides coordination for the Medical Centerâs efforts to monitor and maintain infection control standards which meet or exceed regulatory requirements and/or standards of the State and Federal Government and The Joint Commission. Directs the administration of the Workersâ Compensation Program.
The Infection Control / Employee Health Coordinator sh all be responsible for performing office or non-manual work directly related to the management or general business operations of the employer or the employerâs customers. Primary duty includes the exercise of discretion and independent judgment regarding matters of significance.
Qualifications
Education:
Associates in Nursing required, Bachelor of science degree in Nursing preferred.
Experience:
Desirable characteristics include two years in Infection Control in an acute care facility; proficiency in written and verbal communication, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all departments in the Medical Center and with the public. Demonstrates a clear working knowledge of infectious disease processes and their impact on the public health and statistical methods. Must be able to follow directions and to perform work according to department standards when no dire ctions are given. Must be emotionally mature and able to function effectively under stress. Must demonstrate leadership ability to effectively implement action plans and educational activities related to identified opportunities.
Licenses/Certificates:
Must possess a current NM license as a Registered Nurse or a multi-state compact license that allows the nurse to work in NM. Certification in Infection Control (CIC) and completion of CDCâs or APICâs Basic Course in Infection Control is preferred. BLS required upon hire or must complete during new employee orientation.
