Job Summary
Essential Functions: The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) will provide timely, non-judgemental, compassionate care to the sexual assault victim. The SANE exam may include a medical-forensic exam, prophylaxis for pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, photographic documentation, and referrals for appropriate medical and psychological follow-up, support and participation in legal proceedings.Essential Job Dutiesï· Ability to perform emergent medical triage of the presenting patient(s)ï· Perform and document sexual assault medical forensic interviews/exams accurately and timelyï· Perform a complete medical forensic evaluation to include: o Head-to-toe medical assessment for trauma, detailed genital/anal examination. Forensic specimen collection and supportive documentation. Photo documentation of bodily and genital-anal injuries with competent documentationï· Assess for mandatory reporting status and report when appropriateï· Maintain chain of custody and adhere to evidence guidelinesï· Ensure patient/medical record confidentiality at all times (HIPAA)ï· Maintain professional standards that do not create conflict of interests with employment or patient careï· Administer prophylactic medications and emergency contraceptionï· Coordinate referrals for appropriate follow-up care as neededï· Testify as fact witness to any/all cases performed while contracted as a SANE Non Essential Functionsï· Performs other duties as assigned.Qualificationsï· Current New Mexico Registered Nurse Licensure or higher. Position Title: Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner(SANE)Exemption Status: Part-time Contract Employment Reports to: Clinical Director Hours: Flexible Salary: BOE SANE Nurse Descriptionï· CPR or BLS Certifiedï· TNCC (Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum) current or within six months of employmentï· Individual or employment-based malpractice insurance (1,000,000/6,000,000)ï·; specialty experience in womenâs health, emergency department or intensive cared (preferred), public health or psychiatry recommended with demonstrated autonomy and professional judgement in nursing practiceï· Completion of the New Mexico Statewide SANE didactic trainingï· Successful completion of recommended clinical components to minimally include: o Conducting at least five normal pelvic exams with 10 recommended Conducting at least five male genital exams with 10 recommended Shadowing an experienced SANE for five exams and being shadowed by an experienced SANE for five exams Obtaining at least five hours of violent crime courtroom observationï· Proficient use of all equipmentï· Med-test upon initial SANE practice and every other year Environmental Conditionsï· The ability to work under extreme pressures.ï· The ability to handle victims with the utmost care and respect.Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
