Coding Compliance Analyst

Location: Denver Colorado

Description: Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System is presently looking of Coding Compliance Analyst right now, this career will be placed in Colorado. This position is responsible for ensuring the accurate coding of diagnoses and procedures for statistical and reimbursement purposes, and for abstracting and analyzing patient records. This position audits, abstracts and codes patient's medical records in accordance with established numerical coding systems and special hospital coding systems.

Audits, abstracts and codes medical and related data from patients in medical records with diagnosis, surgical and medical procedures, in accordance with the International Classific! ation of Diseases, Adapted, the Standard Nomenclature of Disea! ses and Operations, Diagnostic Related Group (DRG) codes and other coding systems.

Reviews narrative records of patient diagnosis, treatments and procedures to determine what information is appropriate for coding purposes, and prepares case abstracts.

Enters coded medical records data on computer terminal; selects diagnosis and operations codes from computer designated abstracting system.

Checks patients’ medical files for completeness, consistency, and compliance with hospital regulations, assuring that all relevant medical records are included in each patient's file.

Contacts doctors, nurses, laboratory, and other auxiliary personnel for information needed to complete, correct, or clarify medical records, and to resolve discrepancies.

Performs other duties as assigned, some of which may be essential to the job.

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent, required

Computer skills, including Microsoft Office, spreadsheet knowledge, and computer applications used for patient information data entry, required

Knowledge of coding/abstraction, medical terminology and Diagnostic Related Group (DRG) normally acquired through completion of an Accredited Record Technician course and/or previous work experience, required

Effective interpersonal and communication skills in order to acquire needed information and maintain cooperative working relationships with physicians, staff, and patients, required

Accredited Records Technician, Registered Records Administrator, or Certification as a Coder, preferred

One (1) year of experience in an office administrative, customer service, or medical office support position, preferred

Working from home is a potential option.
