Interpret existing policies and procedures to nursing assistants, restorative nursing assistants, residents, families and physicians.
Supervise and evaluate all direct resident care and initiate corrective action as necessary.
Obtain report from nurse being relieved and record sufficient information to implement appropriate follow-up action as necessary.
Provide report to nurse coming on duty, including sufficient information for follow-up action as necessary.
Take appropriate action to assure adequate staffing to meet residentsâ needs.
Conduct resident rounds daily, reporting problems to nursing supervisor and initiating corrective action.
Identify safety hazards and initiate corrective action immediately.
Identify resident problems and emergency situation and initiate emergency care and a life saving at measures in the absence of a physician.
Follow, supervise and evaluate implementation of the Residents= Rights Program.
Participate in facility education programs.
Provide supervision to Nursing Assistants providing di! rect resident care.
Attend staff meetings, interdisci! plinary team meetings, rehabilitation meetings, in-service classes and committee meetings as assigned.
Follow staffing guidelines and make nursing assignments according to qualifications of staff and characteristics of the resident population.
Assume responsibility for compliance with federal, state and local regulations within the assigned unit.
Counsel Nursing Assistants and recommend disciplinary action to the Director of Nursing Service, when necessary.
Participate in the employee evaluation process by providing information on the performance of Nursing Assistants.
Administer and document direct resident care, medications and treatments per physicians= orders and accurately record all care provided.
Provide instruction for appropriate nursing care to licensed nurses and Nursing Assistants.
Perform comprehensive assessment of residents as assigned.
Document comprehensive assessment of residents as as! signed.
Develop and implement an accurate comprehensive care plan based on each residentâs needs and his/her comprehensive assessment.
Promptly report changes in residentsâ conditions to the physician, Director of Nursing Service and responsible party, and take follow-up action as necessary.
Follow facility admission procedures and communicate resident admission to other departments, physicians and ancillary service providers.
Competently perform basic nursing skills.
Follow facility discharge /transfer procedure and coordinate discharge/transfer with other departments, physicians and ancillary service providers.
Complete documentation related to the residentâs discharge/transfer.
Supervise response to residentâs call for assistance.
Listen to resident, family, or physician concerns and initiate corrective action and/or report concerns to Nursing Supervisor.
Count narcotics; check emerg! ency kit and exchange keys.
Check meal trays and nourishment t! o ensure proper diet is served and residents are assisted as necessary.
Supervise the application and removal of all restraints and devices used to position and enable residents to function as independently as possible.
Order, receive and store medications appropriately.
Notify physician, when necessary, of changes in residentsâ conditions, weight, medication errors, medication not available, abnormal laboratory/X-Ray results and any other unusual observations.
Document resident progress notes as required.
Document daily notes on unstable residents, Medicare residents and recently admitted residents.
Consistently work cooperatively with residents, nursing staff, physicians, families, consultant personnel, community agencies and ancillary service providers.
Obtain continuing education required to maintain licensure.
Be responsible for the safety of residents under his/her supervision.
Observe ! all facility safety policies and procedures.
Come to work in a clean, neat uniform and consistently present an appropriate professional appearance.
Come to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrate dependability and punctuality.
Assume accountability for data contained in the employeesâ handbook.
Perform all duties assigned in an effective, cooperative, timely and professional manner.
Observe infection control procedures.
Follow Residentsâ Rights policies at all times.
Be responsible for the safety of residents under his/her supervision.
Observe all facility policies and procedures.
Perform other related duties as directed by his/her supervisor.

Required Skills
Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Currently licensed with the State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse or License! d Practical Nurse in good standing and meeting all applicable federal a! nd state licensure requirements.
Previous geriatric nursing experience desirable.
Experience in supervising nursing personnel desirable.
Must be organized, self-directed and highly motivated with demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
Must possess a positive attitude toward the elderly.
Position requires sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, pulling, stretching, lifting, grasping, and reaching.
