The Staff Nurse (BCMA/Stroke Coordinator) is responsible for coordination of all patient care activities related to BCMA across the organization. Responsibilities include but are not limited to knowledge of administrative manuals and policies, nursing procedures and policies, and the BCMA contingency plan. The BCMA Coordinator assures that patient care needs are provided in a safe environment and in a timely manner and is a resource person and consultant for clinical issues related to BCMA. The incumbent will use the BCMA clinical applications' techni! cal and user manuals, as well as technical references specific to clinical applications. Guidelines consist of accreditation agencies policies, Nursing Service policies and procedures, agency equipment regulations and directives, contracts, equipment manuals and specifications, and VA Regulatory Authority under Public Law. The BCMA Coordinator is responsible and accountable for the provision of information, education, training, and technical support for all nursing and allied health staff related to electronic documentation, software applications, and the coordination and direction of BCMA modules across the organization. She/he collaboratively interacts with the Nursing Service ADPAC and Education Department in order to provide comprehensive and expert nursing knowledge and information to this area, which will result in an interactive and collegial networking process. The BCMA-C generates reports, aggregates and trends data to provide specific and statistical data i.e. PRN! effectiveness and wristband scanning failures. The BCMA Coordinator se! rves as the co-chair of the multidisciplinary BCMA Committee with the Barcode Expansion Coordinator (BCE-C). The BCMA Coordinator possesses the knowledge and skills to effectively apply all aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting. The BCMA Coordinator is responsible for the clinical, research and educational aspects of the assignment and other duties as assigned. He/she works in collaboration with all disciplines serviced by the BCMA computer software program throughout NMVAHCS. The Stroke Coordinator is responsible for performing chart audits of patients who have had a stroke, to determine compliance with national standards, entering data into the Stroke Quality dashboard, as well as the Inpatient Evaluation Center (IPEC) database. The Stroke-C is also responsible for providing the following patient and family education to patients who survive acute stroke: signs and symptoms of stroke, effects and prognosis of the stroke, ! potential complications, needs and rationales for treatments, patient compliance instructions for risk reduction programs, and post-stroke support services.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS : U.S. Citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Full unrestricted Licensure, Certification, or Registration required Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting C! ommission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CC! NE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. (The completion of course or equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6)). Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.

The criteria are as follows: Practice: practice, ethics and resource utilization; Professional Development: performance, education/career development; Collaboration: collaboration, collegiality; Scientific Inquiry: quality of care, research.
