The New Mexico VA Health Care System (NMVAHCS) is seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

for the Artesia Community Based Outpatient Clinic

rtesia, nestled in the Pecos Valley, may be New Mexico's Best Kept Secret.

Artesia is located between Roswell, site of the International UFO Museum, and Carlsbad and the nearby spectacular Carlsbad Caverns.

New Mexico is rich in history and offers skiing, mountain biking, hiking, stream fishing and boating.

The APRN should have experience in working with patients who have a variety of mental health conditions, including both acute exacerbations and chronic mental illnesses.

Training in evidence-based psychotherapy modalities such as Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and/or Motivational Enhancement Therapy is desirable but not required.

The specific responsibilities of the APRN include completing mental health assessments

of

patients referred, as well as providing ongoing care for patients in need of specialty ment! al health treatment in the form of psychopharmacological management and! and/or evidence-based psychotherapy.

The APRN will also function collaboratively in a consultative role to the primary care providers in that CBOC, providing guidance and advice regarding management of mental health conditions.

The APRN will also provide Telemental Health services to veterans at the Alamogordo CBOC.

A nurse practitioner must be licensed or otherwise recognized as a nurse practitioner in a State, possess a master's degree from a program accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE, and maintain full and current certification as a nurse practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body. [The certification must be in the specialty to which the individual is being appointed or selected.]

English Language Proficiency.

RNs appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
Applicant's education and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant sel! ected. Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experie! nce is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel. The criteria are as follows: Practice: practice, ethics and resource utilization, Professional Development: performance, education/career development, Collaboration; collaboration, collegiality, Scientific Inquiry: quality of care, research. Education/Experience Requirements:

Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, no experience.

Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field and no experience; or a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) and no experience.

Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 yea! rs of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of experience; or a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of experience, or a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no experience.

Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years experience or a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience.

Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years experience or Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years experience.
