Salary range: $67,047.00 - $82,131.00 (Annually)

DUTIES:

Collects trauma patient information through chart requisition and medical records. Evaluates and abstracts data from health care records of qualified trauma patients and completes accurate data entry of demographic and visit information obtained into the Trauma Registry. Codes injury severity for all traumatic injuries using physician and nurse documentation, prehospital information, and radiology reports. Completes trauma patient abstraction, data exports, and performance improvement reports from the same system. Prepares summaries and reports of trauma related deaths, statistical reports, data summaries, and special reports/statistical data as requested. Coordinates Quality Management and Performance Improvement activities with the department. Interprets regulations to identify elements of patient care to be monitored and the monitoring criteria; and to establish systems and processes to ensure compliance with agency requirements. Develops a review-timeline including components of patients records to convey the pertinent quality-of-care issues. Maintains documentation of patient's treatment, activity and condition. Educates and evaluates clinical and support department staff regarding quality management regulations and standards of care. Designs and develops of quality assurance and performance improvement activities for care including trauma registry, case critiques, audits, clinical case reviews, and patient care conferences. Provides nursing care within the Emergency Nursing Scope of Practice. Provides care with specialization in triage and prioritization, emergency operations preparedness, stabilization and resuscitation, and crisis intervention for unique patient populations. Observes and assesses the patient's clinical condition - collects and interprets data from the patient's history and physical assessment. Based on interpretation of data, decides appropriate Nursing action to be taken. Consults with attending physicians and other staff members to determine and evaluate the kind of care needed. Administers therapeutic measures as prescribed by the physician to include, but not limited to medication administration, diagnostics, intravenous fluids, blood transfusion, and treatments within the nursing scope of practice.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

BASIC REQUIREMENT:
1. Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
2. Applicant must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition to the BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
GS-11: Completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education OR 1 year of professional nursing experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level.
Specialized Experience: Experience that equipped with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience for the Nurse Specialist (Quality Management Coordinator/Trauma Registrar) include: trauma registry data entry and promoting optimal care of emergency department patients through coordination of departmental quality management and performance improvement activities; initiates assessment, planning and implementation of care to patients of all ages requiring stabilization and/or resuscitation for a variety of illnesses and injuries. Work experience managing patient care in varying medical conditions. Independently provides complex professional nursing care to trauma patients. Education is provided as well as staff development in area of expertise to a variety of individuals and groups.
