Gallup Service Unit consists of Gallup Indian Medical Center (GIMC), a 99 bed general and surgical hospital with a large clinic system. The service unit also operates an ambulatory health center at Tohatchi, NM and a health station and three (3) dental facilit! ies. Four Directions Behavioral Health Services (BHS) has inte! grated the mental health, social services, and substance abuse services under the direction of this one supervisor. The incumbent will be responsible for the overall direction and coordination of this unified service department and the direct supervision of these staff responsible for its revised and unified functions (Child/Adolescent/Family Services; Adult Psychiatric Services; Social Work Services; Alcohol/Substance Abuse Services and Support Staff) both within GIMC Clinic and within the community.

Directs the development, assessment, coordination and delivery of mental health, alcohol/substance abuse, and social wo! rk services to patients at: 1) GIMC in the ER, medically admitted inpatients and on an outpatient basis; 2) at Tohatchi Health Center on an outpatient as well as community outreach basis; and 3) on an outpatient basis at Ft. Wingate Clinic in close cooperation with psychologists and counselors at Wingate High, Middle and Elementary Schools.
Represents the Four Directions Behavioral Health Services at hospital committee meetings and at meetings with other agencies.
Studies the nature of mental health, substance abuse, and social work service problems specific to Native American people and evaluates the methods used in the treatment of these problems.
Generates reports on mental health issues and activities as necessary for statistical, administrative or planning purposes.
Provides a full range of psychological services including evaluations, diagnosis, referral, psychotherapy and specialized treatment modalities for mental health problems of children, adolesc! ents, adults and families.
Administers psychological tests to all p! atients, including intellectual/cognitive functioning tests, achievement tests and personality/projective tests, with knowledge about applying sensitivity to cultural norms, minority groups and the Native American population served.
Provides and coordinates crisis intervention and on call services for problems related to physical, emotional, and/or sexual abuse, suicidal ideation/gestures, homicidal ideation/gestures and other serious mental health emergencies. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Back to top

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Degree: major or equivalent in psychology for all specializations except clinic! al psychology and counseling psychology. Satisfactory completion of all the requirements for the doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology is required.
In addition to meeting the Basic Requirements:
GS-14: Candidates must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level.
GS-15: Candidates must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 grade level.
Specialized Experience: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been gained in providing the full range of psychological services (i.e., therapeutic, assessment, and psychotherapy) and experience managing and providing! overall administrative direction.
Selective Factor: In! addition to the qualification requirements, to be rated basically qualified for the position, applicants must demonstrate possession of the following. Verification of current, valid, active, unrestricted license in any State, the District of Columbia , the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico , or a territory of the United States is required when filling all positions for registered nurses at all levels.
